First open water swim of the season done

Last Sunday (June 11) I swam Munich’s long distance (4 km) event, which took place in the Regatta course of the 1972 Olympics. It was a lot of fun: great atmosphere, nice weather, and a unique venue (http://bit.ly/2hzWGyc).

The water temperature was 19 degrees C – cold enough for me to try out the wetsuit (which I may need for the marathon swim in Italy later this month).

I finished in 57 mins., 21st overall and 6th in my age group. At the finish line, we had isotonic beer (see image), and to cap it all off we had a ‘Mark Spitz’ burger at München 72, my favorite bar in Munich. As preparations for the upcoming marathon swim go, it could not have been a better all around weekend.

I think I’m now ready for the 14 km in Italy at the end of this month… we’ll see…
